Karate chief set to return

THE country's chief karate instructor Sensei Ken Osuki Enoeda, looks set to return to Cleckheaton Karate Club after hailing last week's training weekend as a great success.

About 500 karate enthusiasts aged from 8-50 descended on Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre on Friday and Saturday, to be instructed and judged by Sensei Enoeda, a black belt eighth dan and former world champion.

About 200 pupils were graded including four members of the Cleckheaton Karate Club who were successful in gaining black belt gradings - Katie Chadwick and Mark Massheder became black belt first Dans, whilst Robin Hainsworth and Ian Hirst both achieved their second Dan.

"The training was superb," said Mr Mike Cowburn who has been instructing Karate at Whitcliffe Mount for over 15 years.

"Sensei Enoeda enjoyed himself that much he hoped to return to repeat the weekend next year." he continued.
"It's great when a man of his calibre pays the club at Cleckheaton such a compliment," he added.
