A
tribute to Sensei Enoeda
by Mike Cowburn Chief Instructor - Cleckheaton Shotokan Karate Club
Sensei Kenosuki
Enoeda 9th Dan (1935 - 2003) The Shotokan Tiger
Many a book and magazine article has been written about him, portraying
his life and considerable achievements in the world of Shotokan Karate.
As with so many others, Sensei Enoeda influenced my early training years
and none more so than during his visit to Cleckheaton in October 1994
(see
archive page).
Sensei presented an excellent weekends training including a black &
brown belt course and grading, attracting many outstanding and world
class karateka. But it was the time we spent together after training
which gave me the best insight into this great man.
Over a Chinese meal and a few whiskeys, I witnessed a keen sense of
humour and was overwhelmed by his love of life. Sensei spoke of his
endearing commitment to the evolution of karate through the development
of young karateka. His words now take on additional meaning as middle
age is upon me (21 years plus VAT) as I hope to play my part in Senseis
master plan.
